How to Show Your Kindle Books to Readers Right On Your Website

Just like YouTube videos, you can embed Kindle books on a web page. Visitors can read the first 10% of your books (the same range as the Look Inside feature) without leaving your website, and be offered a chance to buy on Amazon at the end of the sample.

The main reason for embedding a Kindle book is to keep visitors on your website for as long as possible. They don't have to go to the Amazon book page to read a sample - and then be distracted by all the other product offerings.

If you're an Amazon Associate, when visitors click on the "Buy" or "Buy on Amazon" links and make a purchase, you will receive commission for the sale.

This tutorial demonstrates the embedding of a Kindle book preview on a blogspot.com page.

Firstly, find the book on amazon.com: you can search by its ASIN number or its title.

Scroll down and click on the <embed> link:

A window will popup:

Click on "Embed on your site (HTML)" radio button; this will generate the embed code for the book:

If you're an Amazon Associate, enter a Tracking ID that you've setup for this book:

You can configure the size of the book reader frame by choosing an "Image Size" after clicking on "See more options":

Now the embed code is ready for deployment - press Ctrl-A followed by Ctrl-C (on PCs) to copy it:

Switch over to the blogspot.com (aka blogger) window, and begin a new post by clicking the pencil icon:

Enter the post title:

Switch to the HTML view before pasting the embed code:

Then preview the embedded book in Compose view:

It looks great! Click Publish:

Let's see it for real on the blog:

(an aside: I live in Australia hence the .au, but it's identical to the US version)

Click on the embedded book and it will jump to the start of content:

The reader can browse through the first 10% of the book:

The reader may decide to buy on amazon:

Does this method work everywhere?

No. The embed code works on :
  • blogspot.com
  • self-hosted wordpress sites
  • weebly.com
But it doesn't work on wordpress.com, go figure. They transform the embed code into a hyperlink.

Additional information

What if the reader has already purchased the book? Can she read the whole book in the embedded reader?  The answer is unfortunately no. She can only read the first 10% just like everyone else. The embedded reader is effectively a "Look Inside" device. However, if she clicks on "Buy on Amazon", the amazon book page will remind her that "You purchased this item on <date>".

Finally, is it possible to make the embedded reader bigger? The answer is yes. If you return to the sixth screen capture above, you'll see an "Image Size" dropdown - choose "Custom" and you will be able to change the width and height.
